Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This A1 sheet practises vocabulary on common adjectives, with six words such as easy, happy and clean. Under "Read the clue. Unscramble the letters to make a word.", each line gives a clue (for example "Not difficult") and jumbled letters (SAYE), and students write the word in the last column. Page 2 is the teacher answer key.
Pedagogical guide
Unscrambling makes students look inside a word, so it suits revision, not introduction: a student who has never met the word can only guess. Every clue is a negative (Not old), so the answer is the opposite of the clue word; tell students not to copy that word, then use pairs such as easy / difficult for a short lesson on opposites.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Say a word such as big or hot and ask students for its opposite.
- (10 min) Students work alone and write each word in the last column.
- (5 min) Correct with the answer key, one word at a time; students spell each answer aloud in English.
- (5 min) Students say each pair aloud, for example easy / difficult, then add one pair of their own.
Adaptations
[S] Give the first letter of each answer and show one worked example, such as Not big = small.
[A] Students write Not ... clues for tall and hot and swap with a partner.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy of page 1 per student; keep page 2 for yourself. The words must already have been taught.
