Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This A1 sheet practises vocabulary on everyday action verbs, with six words such as see, listen and sleep. Under "Read the clue. Unscramble the letters to make a word.", each line gives a clue (for example "To look with your eyes") and jumbled letters (ESE), and students write the word in the last column. Page 2 is the teacher answer key.
Pedagogical guide
Unscrambling makes students look inside a word, so it suits revision, not introduction: a student who has never met the word can only guess. Every clue starts with To and the answers are base-form verbs; walk and talk both end in -alk, so expect students to swap them and point back to the clues.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Mime a few everyday actions and ask students to say them in English.
- (10 min) Students work alone and write each word in the last column.
- (5 min) Correct with the answer key, one word at a time; students spell each answer aloud in English.
- (5 min) One student mimes a verb from the sheet and the class names it.
Adaptations
[S] Write the first letter and the number of letters next to each clue.
[A] Students write To ... clues for eat and run and swap with a partner.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy of page 1 per student; keep page 2 for yourself. The words must already have been taught.
