Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This A1 sheet practises vocabulary on colours, with food and clothes, with six words such as green, yellow and carrot. Under "Read the clue. Unscramble the letters to make a word.", each line gives a clue (for example "The colour of grass") and jumbled letters (GENER), and students write the word in the last column. Page 2 is the teacher answer key.
Pedagogical guide
Unscrambling makes students look inside a word, so it suits revision, not introduction: a student who has never met the word can only guess. Four answers are colours, and the clue for orange mentions the fruit, so tell students the answer is the colour word; carrot and shirt are the odd ones out.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Hold up coloured objects and ask students for the colour, in English.
- (10 min) Students work alone and write each word in the last column.
- (5 min) Correct with the answer key, one word at a time; students spell each answer aloud in English.
- (5 min) Students name a classroom object for each of the four colours, for example The board is green.
Adaptations
[S] Let students solve the four colour words first, then the food and clothes words, with the first letter given.
[A] Students write a clue of the type The colour of ... for two more colours and swap with a partner.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy of page 1 per student; keep page 2 for yourself. The words must already have been taught.
