Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This A1 sheet practises vocabulary on time words, with six words such as yesterday, tomorrow and afternoon. Under "Read the clue. Unscramble the letters to make a word.", each line gives a clue (for example "The day before today") and jumbled letters (DATSYEREY), and students write the word in the last column. Page 2 is the teacher answer key.
Pedagogical guide
Unscrambling makes students look inside a word, so it suits revision, not introduction: a student who has never met the word can only guess. Yesterday and afternoon have nine letters and are the hardest; the clues for hour (60 minutes) and minute (60 seconds) are numbers, so students must think of units of time.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Ask in English what day it is today and what time the lesson ends.
- (10 min) Students work alone and write each word in the last column.
- (5 min) Correct with the answer key, one word at a time; students spell each answer aloud in English.
- (5 min) Students say one plan for tomorrow, for example Tomorrow I play football.
Adaptations
[S] Let students start with the two four-letter answers and give the first letter of the long ones.
[A] Students write clues in the same style for morning and evening and swap with a partner.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy of page 1 per student; keep page 2 for yourself. The words must already have been taught.
