Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This A1 sheet practises vocabulary on landscape and nature, with six words such as forest, sea and mountain. Under "Read the clue. Unscramble the letters to make a word.", each line gives a clue (for example "A place with many trees") and jumbled letters (SEROFT), and students write the word in the last column. Page 2 is the teacher answer key.
Pedagogical guide
Unscrambling makes students look inside a word, so it suits revision, not introduction: a student who has never met the word can only guess. Five answers are places in nature and cow is a farm animal, so warn students that the last clue is not a landscape word.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Ask what students can see in the countryside, without saying the words of the sheet.
- (10 min) Students work alone and write each word in the last column.
- (5 min) Correct with the answer key, one word at a time; students spell each answer aloud in English.
- (5 min) Students choose one of the places and say why they like it, for example I like the beach.
Adaptations
[S] Write the first letter next to each clue, or list the six answers in a jumbled column so the task becomes matching.
[A] Students write a new clue for two answers and read it to a partner, who names the word.
Materials & prerequisites
One copy of page 1 per student; keep page 2 for yourself. The words must already have been taught.
