Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
A multiple-choice picture sheet on clothes. Pupils look at nine clothing items and choose the right name from three options for each, for example Jeans among T-shirt, Jeans and Pants, or Suit among Jacket, Jersey and Suit. The printed instruction is "Look at the clothing items and choose the option that corresponds (A, B or C)." Every question reads "What is it?"
Pedagogical guide
Choosing from three options is recognition, not production, so the sheet suits a first pass over the clothes words. The distractors are related garments (T-shirt, Polo shirt, Jacket), so pupils must look at details such as collar, sleeves and length. Watch British and American usage: Pants, Vest and Jersey name different garments on each side of the Atlantic, so decide which variety you teach before checking.
Suggested procedure
- (4 min) Show clothes on yourself or in the room and name them with the class.
- (3 min) Do the first question (Jeans) together and say why the other options are wrong.
- (10 min) Pupils choose one option for each of the nine pictures.
- (6 min) Check with the key; stop at the Vest picture and discuss the British and American meanings.
- (5 min) In pairs, pupils describe what a partner is wearing ("You are wearing ...").
Adaptations
[S] Pupils first cross out the option that is clearly wrong, then choose between the other two.
[A] Pupils cover the options, name each garment, then write the item with a colour ("a blue shirt").
Materials & prerequisites
One copy of page 1 per pupil and a pencil; page 2 is your answer key. Pupils should have met the main clothes words orally.
