Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
Four verbs, four partners: this A1 matching sheet on daily routines pairs have with a shower, do with exercise, wake with up early and make with the bed. Pupils read the printed instruction, "Match the words that go together and draw a line", and join each verb to the words that complete it. The pack holds the sheet and an answer-key page, and an interactive online preview is also available.
Pedagogical guide
A collocation is a word partnership that sounds right without any rule to explain it. Three of the four verbs here (have, do, make) are the everyday verbs that learners most often mix up, and wake up is a phrasal verb that must be learned as one unit. With only four pairs, the sheet works as a quick warm-up or a revision check once the routine vocabulary has been met.
Suggested procedure
- (2 min) Write have on the board and ask for words that could follow it. Accept every idea, then show that a shower is on the sheet.
- (5 min) Pupils draw their four lines individually, in pencil.
- (3 min) Check together with the answer key and read each full phrase aloud: make the bed, wake up early.
- (5 min) Each pupil writes or says two true sentences, such as "I make the bed every morning."
Adaptations
[S] Do the first pair together, then fold the sheet so that only the unmatched words show. Pupils say each phrase aloud before they draw the line.
[A] Pupils add two routines of their own with the same verbs (for example have breakfast, do homework) and write a four-sentence paragraph about their morning.
Materials & prerequisites
One printed sheet per pupil and a pencil; keep the answer-key page for yourself.
