Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This sheet on parts of the body shows one full-length drawing of a boy with open arms and eleven empty boxes joined to the picture by arrows, pointing to the hair, the eyebrow, the stomach and other parts. Following the instruction "Label the body parts", pupils write the name of each part in its box, choosing from a word box printed on the sheet. The last arrow points to both feet.
Pedagogical guide
Pupils must read the arrow, not only know the word, so the task checks that name and place go together. Two pairs need care: eye and eyebrow sit close together on the face, and foot is singular while feet labels both feet. The word box lowers the difficulty. Use the sheet after the body parts have been taught orally.
Suggested procedure
- (4 min) Touch a body part on yourself; the class touches it and says the word.
- (3 min) Show the sheet, follow one arrow with your finger and label it together.
- (10 min) Pupils label alone in pencil, using the word box.
- (5 min) Check with the answer key on page 2: a pupil points to each part on the drawing.
- (3 min) Play Simon says with the eleven parts.
Adaptations
[S] Do the first three arrows together; pupils cross out each word in the box once used.
[A] Pupils cover the word box and label from memory, then name two further body parts that are not on the sheet.
Materials & prerequisites
One sheet per pupil and a pencil. Page 2 is the answer key: keep it. Pupils should know the body vocabulary orally.
