Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
By the end, A1- students can introduce themselves in writing. The one-page fill-in sheet has four sentence starters (My name is ..., I am ... years old, I live in ..., I am excited about ...), a box for a photo or drawing, three boxes (favorite activities, favorite subject, the best parts of being at school) and two lines for goals. It is personal, so there is no answer key.
Pedagogical guide
Use it in the first weeks of the year as a getting-to-know-you task and a quick check of what students can already write. The first four lines are controlled; the three boxes and the goals are open, and students can draw or write single words instead of sentences. The sheet uses US spelling (favorite): tell students that British English writes favourite. Excited about and goals are above a strict A1- level, so give an example.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Model the page on the board with your own answers (My name is Anna. I live in Lyon.).
- (10 min) Students complete the four sentences and the photo or drawing box, then the three boxes with words or drawings.
- (4 min) Students write one or two goals in single words; allow the home language if needed.
- (5 min) Students read their sheet to a partner. Display the sheets on the wall.
Adaptations
- [S] Students complete the four sentences and one box; they draw in the other boxes.
- [A] Students write full sentences in the boxes (My favorite subject is art.) and write both goals as sentences.
