Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
By the end, students can read and name 12 verbs used in classroom instructions. The one-page sheet shows 12 black-and-white icons and a word box at the top (read, write, draw, cut, glue, listen and six more). Students write the matching verb on the line under each icon. There is no answer key: check against the icons.
Pedagogical guide
These are the verbs students meet in every worksheet instruction, so use the sheet early in the year and keep the finished page as a reference. Some words (self-correct, highlight, discuss) are above a strict A1- level: pre-teach them with real objects (a highlighter, scissors, glue) or mime. Three icons need a word of explanation: ask is a raised hand with question marks, think is a head with question marks, and choose is a hand ticking one box.
Suggested procedure
- (4 min) Read the 12 verbs aloud; mime each one and students copy.
- (2 min) Label the first icon together on the board.
- (8 min) Students label the other icons alone, then compare in pairs.
- (4 min) Check as a class: say an instruction (Cut. Glue. Draw.) and students point to the icon.
Adaptations
- [S] Students start with the verbs they can mime easily (read, write, draw, cut, glue, listen) and cross out each word in the box when used.
- [A] Students write a two-step instruction, for example Read. Then write.
