Pedagogical Guide

Objective & content

This two-page printable has pupils cut out nine boxes, eight captioned pictures such as Wake up, Brush teeth and Make and pack lunch plus one blank box, and arrange them in the order of their own morning. By the end, A1 pupils can put 8 everyday actions in sequence in English. Page 2 has nine boxes to paste them into, in order, and number.

Pedagogical guide

A movable card can be tried in three places before it is stuck down, and that trying is the thinking. The blank box is the part worth protecting: pupils draw something only they do, which turns a generic sequence into their own morning. Ask them to say what they drew in English. There is no single right order, as Wash can come before or after Get dressed, so accept any sensible sequence and ask pupils to justify it.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Read the eight captions aloud together and mime two of them.
  2. (5 min) Pupils cut out the boxes. Nothing is stuck down yet.
  3. (10 min) They arrange the boxes on the desk in their own order and draw in the blank box.
  4. (5 min) A neighbour reads the order back in English. Only then do pupils paste and number the boxes on page 2.
  5. (5 min) Three pupils tell their morning aloud, using first, then and after that.

Adaptations

[S] Pre-cut the boxes and remove two, so the sequence is shorter and the scissors are not the obstacle.

[A] After pasting, pupils write one sentence per box, in order, as a paragraph.

Materials & prerequisites

Print both pages per pupil, with scissors, glue and coloured pencils for the blank box. Allow desk space: the boxes need somewhere to be moved around before anything is stuck.
