Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This sheet on clothes pairs ten words, such as socks, dress and trousers, with ten drawings placed five down each side of the page. Following the instruction "Look, read and match. Use different colours", pupils draw a line from each word in the middle to its picture, using a different colour for each line. Nothing has to be written.
Pedagogical guide
Pupils recognise a printed word and link it to a drawing, so the sheet suits learners meeting the written forms for the first time. Different colours let you see at a glance which lines are right and untangle crossings. Point out that socks, gloves, trousers and shorts are plural, while shoe and cap are singular.
Suggested procedure
- (4 min) Point to clothes in the room or on pupils; the class names them in English.
- (3 min) Read the instruction aloud and draw the first coloured line on the board.
- (8 min) Pupils match alone, with several coloured pencils.
- (5 min) Check with the answer key on page 2: pupils read each word aloud.
- (5 min) In pairs, pupils tell each other what they are wearing today.
Adaptations
[S] Do the first three lines together, then let pairs continue.
[A] Pupils turn the sheet over and write the ten words from memory, then check against the sheet.
Materials & prerequisites
One sheet per pupil and several coloured pencils. Page 2 is the answer key: keep it. The ten words should have been met orally.
