Pedagogical Guide

Objective & content

By the end, A1- students can name 8 jobs from pictures. The one-page sheet shows 8 illustrated people at work, each with an empty box below, and a word box at the top. Students copy the matching job word into each box. There is no answer key: check against the pictures.

Pedagogical guide

This is a pure vocabulary task: use it after you have taught or revised jobs, or as a check of what students already know. Each picture is recognised by clothes or a tool (a pitchfork, a uniform), so ask students what helps them decide. Check two pictures before you hand the sheet out: the doctor holds a small tooth and may look like a dentist, and the engineer wears a hard hat and a high-visibility vest, which some students will call a builder.

Suggested procedure

  1. (3 min) Read the 8 words in the box aloud; students repeat.
  2. (2 min) Mime one job; the class says the word and finds the picture.
  3. (7 min) Students label the pictures alone, then compare in pairs.
  4. (5 min) Check as a class: point to each picture; students say the job and spell it.

Adaptations

  • [S] Students label the 4 jobs they know first; write the first letter of each word on the board.
  • [A] Students write a sentence for three pictures, for example She is a teacher.
