Pedagogical Guide

Objective & content

This sheet on feelings shows six pictures of a child, such as one who is confused, one who is tired and one who is sad, each with the question "How does he feel?" and three written options. Following the instruction "Can you tell how each kid feels? Circle the correct answer", pupils circle one option per picture. The answer key gives each answer as a letter and a word.

Pedagogical guide

Pupils only read and recognise, so the sheet works at first contact with the words. The wrong options are close: one item offers both sleepy and tired, another sleepy, sad and sick, so pupils must really look at the face. Ask why an answer fits, since two options can feel similar. Use the sheet after the feelings have been introduced orally.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Mime six feelings; the class says the word. Include tired and sleepy.
  2. (3 min) Read the instruction aloud and do the first picture together on the board.
  3. (8 min) Pupils work alone in pencil.
  4. (5 min) Check with the answer key on page 2, asking pupils to justify each answer from the face.
  5. (5 min) One pupil mimes a feeling; the class asks "Are you sad?" and similar questions.

Adaptations

[S] Read each set of options aloud and let pupils point before they circle.

[A] Pupils write one sentence for each picture, for example He is sad.

Materials & prerequisites
