Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
This sheet on everyday actions shows twelve pictures, such as wake up, brush your teeth and go to school, to be labelled with phrases from a word box printed on the sheet. Following the instruction "Look at the pictures and label the actions", pupils write the correct phrase on the line under each picture. The pictures follow one day, from morning to bedtime.
Pedagogical guide
Each answer is a whole phrase, so pupils copy and spell chunks such as have lunch or go to bed. Several phrases share a verb (have breakfast, have lunch, have a bath; go to school, go to bed), which is where mistakes will appear: the picture must decide, not the first word. The word box lowers the difficulty. Use the sheet after the daily routine has been presented orally.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Mime four actions from the sheet; the class says the phrase.
- (3 min) Read the instruction aloud and label the first picture together, using the word box.
- (12 min) Pupils work alone in pencil.
- (5 min) Check with the answer key on page 2, picture by picture.
- (5 min) In pairs, one pupil mimes an action and the other says the phrase.
Adaptations
[S] Do the first three pictures together; pupils tick each phrase in the word box once it is used.
[A] Pupils cover the word box and label from memory, then write three sentences about their own morning, for example I wake up at seven.
Materials & prerequisites
One sheet per pupil and a pencil. Page 2 is the answer key: keep it. Pupils should have met the twelve phrases orally.
