Objective & content

This poster groups 27 body-part words into the body (head, knee, tummy), the face and head (eye, nose, tooth), the hand (thumb, wrist) and the five senses. By the end, A1 students can name body parts and use them in simple sentences with I have got... and This is my...

Pedagogical guide

Body vocabulary suits touch-and-say work: students point to the part as they say the word. Start with the body group, the most familiar, then the face and the hand. Keep the five senses for last, because each comes with a frame such as I see with my eyes., a small step up from naming. Point out the paired forms foot / feet and tooth / teeth.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Say a body part and students touch it. Speed up as they grow confident.
  2. (10 min) In pairs, one student names a part and the other touches it. Swap.
  3. (5 min) Teach the senses with the frame I see with my eyes.
  4. (5 min) Chant together: I have got two eyes and one nose. This is my hand.

Adaptations

[S] Use the body and face groups only (18 words) and accept single-word answers.

[A] Students write three sentences with I have got... and three with I smell with my nose. style frames.
