Pedagogical Guide

Objective & content

By the end, A1- pupils can say what they like and don't like with I like ..., I don't like ... and Me too!. The bank is 25 projectable slides: a how-to slide, then 24 pairs of labelled pictures, each with its question, such as Cats or dogs?, Pizza or pasta? or Summer or winter?. Pupils choose one picture and tell the class; the class counts the hands.

Pedagogical guide

Use it as a five-minute warm-up with beginners. The choice is quick and personal, so every pupil can answer with one short sentence, and the vote makes the class listen to each other. The pairs cover food and drink, animals, places, seasons, transport and free time. The plural labels (cats, bananas, trainers) model I like + plural nouns. The slides are interchangeable: show two or three per lesson.

Suggested procedure

  1. (1 min) Show the how-to slide, then one pair, and say the two words together.
  2. (2 min) Pupils choose one picture and say I like ... or I don't like ...; others answer Me too!.
  3. (2 min) Count the hands for each picture: which one wins? Repeat with a new slide.

Adaptations

  • [S] Pupils stand on the left or the right side of the room instead of speaking first.
  • [A] Stronger classes add a reason with because, or a pupil chooses two words for the next slide.

Materials & prerequisites

A projector or screen; the bank is a 16:9 PDF, one slide per page, with no printing needed. Assumes I like and basic food, animal and free-time words.

Curriculum alignment

Maps to Cycle 3 "child and close environment" (FR): saying what one likes and doesn't like.
