Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
By the end, A1+ pupils can talk about their favourite things with a reason (My favourite ... is ... because ...) and ask a classmate What's your favourite ...?. The bank is 5 projectable slides: a how-to slide, then 4 slides of six pictured sentence cards, 24 in all, from My favourite food is ... to My favourite day of the year is .... The picture on each card is only an example: each pupil says THEIR own favourite, not what the picture shows.
Pedagogical guide
Use it as a five-minute warm-up, or at the start of the year to get to know a class. Each card gives the start of the sentence, so pupils only add their favourite and a reason. The question step turns it into a short exchange: What's your favourite ...?, Me too!, Really? Mine is .... The cards cover food, animals, school, free time, home and special days, and the slides are interchangeable: show one per lesson.
Suggested procedure
- (1 min) Show the how-to slide, then one slide of cards.
- (2 min) Pupils choose a card, finish the sentence and say why.
- (2 min) They ask a friend the same question and react with Me too! or Really? Mine is ....
Adaptations
- [S] Pupils finish the sentence without a reason first, then add because with a model.
- [A] Find someone: pupils walk round and find a classmate with the same favourite. Or they choose three cards and write about their favourites.
Materials & prerequisites
A projector or screen; the bank is a 16:9 PDF, one slide per page, with no printing needed. Assumes my favourite ... is, because and What's your ...?.
