Pedagogical Guide
Objective & content
A two-page printable that goes with the Now You Say It episode Where Do You Live?: the street Max and Luna live on, with a house, a shop and the school bus. Pupils name eight things, write where they live themselves, then colour the street, with the teacher key on page two.
Pedagogical guide
Every word is A1 in the glossary and every one is a thing the picture shows, so a true beginner meets it with the object in front of them. Asking what pupils can see on their own street, before they write, brings the same words back in a context they already know.
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Ask "What can you see on your street?" around the class before anyone writes.
- (10 min) Hand out page 1. Pupils write the word for each numbered thing from the list.
- (5 min) Pupils answer the last line about their own town.
- (5 min) Correct from page 2.
- (10 min) Colouring.
Adaptations
[S] Read the word list aloud and let pupils match number to word.
[A] Fold the word list away and let pupils write from memory, then check with a partner.
Materials & prerequisites
Page 1 printed for every pupil, plus coloured pencils. Keep page 2, the teacher key. Black and white printing is enough and is what the sheet is designed for.
