Martin’s family is poor and his sister thinks he should get a job. They weren’t always poor: in the time of Charles I, Martin’s grandfather was a prosperous tailor with a magnificent house in London. But he lost his house and his fortune during the Civil War and some people think he lost his mind too. However, with help from Martin, he begins to remember things, and the secrets of the past are revealed as the Great Fire of London burns.
